Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest way to order repeat prescriptions is:

You can also:

  • hand in your prescription counterfoil to the surgery, indicating the items required
  • post your prescription counterfoil to us with a Stamped Addressed Envelope
  • fill out a repeat prescription request form available from the surgery
  • telephone the surgery between 10:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday

We do not take repeat prescription requests via email.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the surgery 3 working days after you have ordered it.

Alternatively we can post your prescription to you if you provide us with a stamped addressed envelope.

If you wish your prescription be sent to a pharmacy, specific local pharmacies offer this service.  Please ask for further details of which local pharmacies collect patients' prescriptions from us.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

  • phone the surgery on 0131 451 3010 after 10am
  • fill in our medication query form.  (The medication query form should not be used to request repeat prescriptions for medication).

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from.  Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy (nhs24.scot)

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
